Late Afternoon at Nolan Creek

8x10 Acrylic on canvas panel
(sold)
About a week ago, I headed down with the painting gear to Nolan Creek.  The afternoon sun was just right lighting up the grasses really highlighting the tree in the foreground. (Read more ...)

"I O U Ranch"

6x8" Oil on canvas panel
(sold)
There's an old, crusty and absolutely cool, artsy mailbox down the road.  Had to paint it! You can read more in the blog post: here if you want to. There's no bluebonnets or red blankets now, but it just seemed right to add it in.

"Misty Morning"

9x12" Acrylic on canvas panel
(sold)
If you visit Beason Park (Columbus, TX) early in the morning, you might get lucky and see the Colorado River with a thick fog. It was so thick when I painted it, the acrylics that normally dry within a minute after brushing it on had problems with being too wet and dripping!  That was a challenge.  I think this really caught the misty feel with the barely noticeable house in the distance across the river.  This placed third in the plein air competition at the Columbus Folk Fest 2012.

"Ed Sandoval's Studio Car"

8x10" Acrylic
I finally revisited and finished a painting done at the famous painter Ed Sandoval's Studio in Toas, NM of an old, rusted car sits out in front. While painting, he rode out on his Stallion in a Zorro outfit and said, "I'm headed into town. I'll be back in a while".  Fun day, and great subject.  I even got a thumbs up by Ed on this painting!

"It'll Do"

10x8 Acrylic on canvas panel
(SOLD)
This is a painting from this summer. While going up to a workshop at the Amarillo Art Institute, I passed through several small towns in the Texas Panhandle. Those folks have a great personality! (Blog article here).  I think it captured the feel of the trip nicely with a small town wave from the It'll Do Motel.

"Tractor Chat"

Acrylic 8x10"
Bid for Hurricane Sandy Fundraiser!
This is a fun painting I did this summer of what you see in rural Weimar, TX.  Please help the victims of Hurricane Sandy by bidding at the DailyPaintWorks' fundraiser (through the link above).  Thanks!

"High Hill Ranch Views"

Acrylic 11x14"
While visiting Weimar, TX, we drove past this scene and I had a chance to snap a reference photo.  The fields of light tan grasses, huge Live Oaks and old crusty barns in the area were perfect!
